MARTIN NELSON, 81, LONGTIME FARMER, BURIED THURSDAY

Hill South Of Blair Named In Honor Of Parents

Martin Nelson, 81 years old, and for 75 years a resident of eastern Nebraska, died at his farm residence south of Blair Sunday night after an illness that had kept him practically disabled from work for the past 18 years, but that became critical only a short time before his death.

Funeral services are being conducted this Thursday afternoon from the Campbell mortuary with Rev. Thomas J. Reese, pastor of the Blair Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery.

A native of Sweden, Mr. Nelson came to the United States with his parents when he was six years old, locating at Omaha. In 1867, when Martin was 12 years old, the family moved to the farm south of Blair which has been their residence since. For the past 18 years the farm has been operated by Oscar Nelson, an adopted son, but despite his advanced years the father kept an active eye on farming operations, being fully qualified to do so as a result of his long farming experience in this region.

Mr. Nelson was married in 1897 to Minnie Walters who survives him. Also surviving is a brother, C. J. Nelson, who farms south of here and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Milton Robinson.

Death of Mr. Nelson removes from the roster of the Pioneers and Old Settlers association of Washington county another of its aged members who had witnessed and contributed towards development of this part of the state from an almost unbroken prairie region to its present agricultural greatness.
