ROSS PARRISH PASSES AWAY

Ross Parrish, well known citizen of Herman, died at his home there Sunday forenoon, February 16, around 10 o’clock a.m. after a brief illness of one week. On Friday, February 7th, he suffered a stroke of paralysis, and had been confined to his home since. A second stroke occurred Sunday and he passed away.

Jacob Ross Parrish was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio October 4th, 1871, being at the time of his death 64 years, 4 months and 11 days of age.

He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Triplett on December 22, 1891 at Herman by Rev. Charles Cross. They made their home here for a time, and then went to Plainview where they lived one year. From there they went to Meekling, South Dakota, coming to Herman in 1916 where they have since resided.

To this union were born three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive. They are Z. Parrish of Herman, Mrs. Grant Dorsett of Volin, South Dakota, Mrs. Gladith Carlson, Yankton, South Dakota, Raymond of Los Angeles, California and Carol of Incline, California.

Mr. Parrish has been employed carrying the mail to and from the depot the past fourteen years. He has also acted as deputy marshall, serving on directing traffic on the streets on Saturday nights the past three years.

Besides the wife and children, he is survived by four brothers, Geo. E. Parrish of Macy, Nebr., Theodore of Herman, Lynn A. and Jesse C. of Omaha and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie B. Hopkins of Omaha and Mrs. Imelda M. Trevits of Newton.

ROSS PARRISH OF HERMAN IS DEAD AFTER STROKE

Herman’s mail carrier, aged 64, succumbs Sunday after stroke.

The community was grieved to learn of the death of Ross Parrish, Sunday, who had been a resident of Herman for twenty years. Friday February 7, he suffered a stroke, but was thought by all to be recovering nicely when Sunday morning the last attack came and ended the life of one of our useful citizens. Jacob Ross Parrish was born in Tuscarawas County Ohio, October 4, 1871 and passed away at his home Sunday, February 16 at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Triplett, on December 22, 1891 near Herman, the late Rev. Chas. Cross performing the ceremony. To this union were born three sons and two daughters, all of whom with their mother survive him. They are Zee of Herman, Mrs. Grant Dorsett, of Volin, S.D., Mrs. Gladieth Carlson of Yankton S.D., Raymond of Los Angeles, California and Carroll, of Incline, California. He also leaves four brothers, George of Macy, Theodore of Herman, Lynn and Jesse of Omaha. Two sisters Mrs. Jennie Hopkins of Omaha, Mrs. Imelda Trevits of Newton, Iowa and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Parrish, with his parents, came from Ohio to Nebraska settling near Blair in the autumn of 1879. After his marriage they shortly moved to the reservation and later to Plainview, Nebraska. After a years stay the family moved to Mecking, S.D. where they resided until 1916. Mr. and Mrs. Parrish came to Herman to care for Mrs. Parrish, the late ElzyTriplett. This had been their home ever since. Mr. Parrish has carried the mail in town here for the past fourteen years, succeeding his son Carroll. During his work, the many kindnesses he showed to the patrons of the post office could not be numbered as well as his acts of his everyday life. He was an upright and respected citizen and one who had made many friends on his journey through life.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the Baptist Church. Rev. T.J. Reese pastor of the Blair Baptist Church, officiated. He was assisted by Rev. A.J. Gumm of the local church. Those who furnished music for the Parrish funeral Wednesday were Mrs. C.E. Johnson, Mrs. Ivan Helms, C.R. Gray, Fred Robertson with Mrs. F.B. Shrader assisting at the piano. The pallbearers were C.L. Reid, C.R. Gray, O.L. Hilsinger, Fred Rogert, E.C. Reid and Wilbur Lowe.
