Mrs. Nettie Gilliam, an old settler and a native and lifelong resident of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Larsen of Blair at 5:18 Tuesday afternoon. The illness was brief, following a stroke from which she never regained consciousness.

Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jackson, formerly of the Fontanelle neighborhood which was her birthplace, having been born there December 31st, 1881. Later the father died and the mother remarried, and the family made their home near Kennard where she grew to maturity, receiving her education in the Kennard schools.

On June 18th, 1902 she was married to Curtis Gilliam, and to them six children were born, five of whom are still living. The father passed on in September, 1927 and five years ago Mrs. Gilliam was married to Mr. Charles Gilliam, who with the children, mourn deeply her death. The children are John and Mrs. Harry Larsen of Blair; Clifford of Portsmouth, Va.; Mrs. Carl Andersen of Herman and Bennie, a member of the C.C.C. now stationed at Weeping Water.

Besides the immediate family she has one sister, Mrs. Fred Steele of Ashland, Nebraska and one brother, George Jackson of Omaha and a half brother, Jesse Coulter of Blair and four grandchildren.

She was a member of the Christian church and lived the part, always living true to the Christian graces. She was also a member of the W.R.C. of which she was president and a member in good standing of the Royal Neighbors.

The funeral will be held at the Christian church in this city at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery. The W.R.C. will have charge of the ceremonies.
