#1 12 Dec., 1935 - The Enterprise

Funeral services for Harry Lee McKibben, who died here at his home on Sunday evening, were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, with the Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen, assisted by a former pastor, the Rev. John D. Hammel of Valley, in charge. Mr. McKibben was born on February 2, 1866 at Ridatt, Ill., and was a son of Jesse Lee and Mary Jane McKibben, the latter being an ordained minister of the United Bretheran church. He spent the early part of his life in Illinois, and when a young man of nineteen years he moved to Saronville. On November 28, 1888 he was married to Miss Addie Ohlson of Saronville, and to this union ten children were born, four of whom preceded their father in death. In 1887 Mr. McKibben entered the grain business in which he continued until about three years ago when he was forced to retire on account of ill health. He moved here with his family about twenty (this obit was not completed)

ARLINGTON MAN A SUICIDE

H. L. McKibben, well known business man of Arlington, died on Sunday evening at his home from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Mr. McKibben had been illl from a cancer of the throat for about a year, and suffered much pain. About 3 o’clock in the afternoon he shot himself and died a few hours later.

Mr. McKibben was born in Stevenson county, Iowa on February 2, 1866, and was married to Addie Ohlson at Clay Center, Nebraska in 1888. The couple lived at various places, and came to Arlington from Blencoe, Iowa about twenty five years ago. Up until several years ago, he managed the Nye-Jenks Elevator Company.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Ziska of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Ruth Stayner of Kansas and Mrs. Alice Laaker of Arlington; and three sons, Mason of Denver, Colorado; Walter of Sterling, Colorado and Clarence of Fremont.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church at 2:00 p.m.
