Thomas R. Gaines, a resident of this vicinity for over half a century, passed away at the Dick Stricklett home in Blair Thursday morning. Mr. Gaines will be greatly missed by us as a very personal friend of everyone. He will be remembered as one who was always ready and willing to give of himself in time of trouble and sorrow. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Kennard on Sunday, December 1st, with Rev. E. P. Booher officiating. Interment was made in the Kennard cemetery.

T R GAINES 86 OF KENNARD DIES KENNARD'S OLDEST RESIDENT SUCCUMBS IN BLAIR ON THANKSGIVING DAY Kennard's oldest resident Thomas R Gaines 86 succumbed in Blair Thanksgiving day at the Dlck Strlcklett home on west South street where he had been for the past month. Had Mr Gaines lived two more days he would have been 87 years old. Born at Mount Pleasant Iowa November 30 1848 he moved with his parents to a farm seven miles west of Springfield Illinois a few years later and grew to manhood there. To Nebraska In 1882 In 1880 he was married to Mary Etta Miller and they moved to Nebraska two years later He farmed in Washington county from 1882 until 1893 when he moved with his family Into Kennard. Mrs Gaines died in February of this year. Surviving Mr Gaines are two sons Perry of Fremont and Clay of San Franclsco.
