#1-7 Nov., 1935 - The Enterprise

The entire community was shocked and deeply grieved to hear of the passing of George Ohrt Tuesday, October 25th, 1935 of a heart attack. He had a similar attack about four weeks go, but seemed much better when he was suddenly stricken at two o’clock Tuesday morning. The entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved family for this great loss of a loving and devoted husband and father, and he will be greatly missed by his many friends and neighbors, but will always be remembered as a loyal, kind and generous friend by all who knew him. George was born 56 years ago on the farm where he was raised and died. He was married to Minna Oft September 25, 1901. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Eggert of Bennington, LeRoy of Irvington and one son, Russell, preceding him in death. Seven grandsons, two sisters and two brothers, Tim and Fred, both of Bennington, Mrs. Kate Dessler of Bennington and Mrs. Mary Smith of Elkhorn and a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the German Lutheran church in Bennington. Burial in the German cemetery north of Bennington. Pallbearers were Harry Fedde, John Dornacker, Gus Timm, Will Glandt, Emil Gottsch and Will Schultz.

GEORGE OHRT OF WASHINGTON PASSES

George Ohrt, well known farmer of the Bennington community, died at his home in Richland township October 29, 1935. He had a heart attack four weeks ago, but seemed much better, when he was suddenly stricken at 2 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Mr. Ohrt was born January 6, 1879 on the farm where he lived until his death. He was married to Minna Oft on September 25, 1901. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Eggert and LeRoy of Bennington; seven grandsons, two brothers, Fred and Tim of Bennington; two sisters, Mrs. Catherina Desler of Bennington and Mrs. Charles Smith of Elkhorn, Nebr.

Funeral services were held at the St. Johns Lutheran church at Bennington Friday afternoon. Interment at the German cemetery. A very large number attended the services which were in charge of Rev. Henry Goede.

Pallbearers were John Dornacker, William A. Schuldt, Gus Timm, C. W. Glandt, Emil Gottsch and Harry Fedde.
