Graveside services are 3 p.m. Thursday, October 28, at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont for Edith E. Spangler French, 98, of Whittier, California, who died October 22, 1993, at Shea Convalescent Home in Whittier. Rev. Lee Milligan of Arlington Community Church is officiating.

Edith E. French was born July 30, 1895, in Ohio. She moved with her parents from Ohio to Nebraska in 1900. They settled near Arlington where they farmed.

She married Everett French January 22, 1918. They farmed near Arlington, moving to Fremont in 1923.

After her husband’s death April 2, 1942, she moved to California.

She was a graduate of Arlington High School and is believed to have been the oldest living graduate of Arlington High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dora Steinman Spangler; daughters, Faye Wood, Jean Woodard and Joyce Ireland; brothers, Thurman Spangler, Earl Spangler and sisters, Nellie Spangler, Rhoda Winther and Lulu Menking.

She is survived by a son, Lynn French of Monterey, California; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
