FORMER KENNARD RESIDENT DIES AT FREMONT HOME

August Kahnk is Found Dead in Room at His Daughter’s Home

August Theodore Kahnk, 68, a farmer in the Kennard vicinity until a few years ago, committed suicide by hanging at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.B. Martens, north of Fremont, last Saturday morning. His body was found at 9 o’clock lying on the bed in his room with a rope attached to the post at the head of the bed.

The hanging took place some time after 3 o’clock Saturday morning as he was heard moving about in his room at that time.

Despondency was said to have been the cause of the suicide. Kahnk had been in low spirits it was said, although he had no worries about finances or other matters.

Kahnk was born in Illinois, but spent practically his entire life in Kennard vicinity where he was a successful farmer. He retired from the farm several years ago, and had been living with his son-in-law and daughter for some time.

Surviving are six sons, John Gustave, Louis, Albert and Arthur all of Kennard and Harry of Fremont; and five daughters, Mrs. Martens, Mrs. William Hanson of Bennington; Marie, Lillian and Clara all of San Francisco, Calif.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son south of Kennard, and interment was made in the German cemetery south of Blair.
