S. M. PARRISH PASSES

Mr. S. M. Parrish died at his home in Herman Thursday afternoon at 1:40 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 22 days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church. The pastor, Rev. C. C. Norlin, conducted the services. Music was furnished by two of his granddaughters, Mrs. Marie Hopkins Vodicka of Omaha, who sang “The City Four-Square” and “Abide With Me”. Mrs. Vera Trevets Scheel of Newton Iowa was at the piano. Interment was made in the Herman cemetery.

Samuel McCoy Parrish was born near Gilmore, Tuscarawas county, Ohio April 7, 1850. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ellen Huffington March 4, 1869 at Gilmore, Ohio, who passed away June 17 1924. To this union were born five sons and two daughters, all of whom survive. They are George E. Parrish of Macy, Nebr.; Jacob R. and Theodore H. of Herman; Lynn A. and Jessie C. and Mrs. Jennie B. Hopkins, all of Omaha and Mrs. Imelda M. Trevits of Newton, Iowa.

Besides these, there are twenty four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, also one brother who lives at Gnadenhutten, Ohio.

Mr. Parrish, with his wife and family, drove from Ohio to Nebraska, reaching Blair late in the fall of 1879. It was a very severe season and four weeks were consumed in crossing the state of Iowa. In the spring of 1882 they moved to a farm southwest of Herman, where he operated a blacksmith shop with his farming. In 1908 they moved back to Herman where he has lived ever since.

Mr. Parrish became a member of the Methodist church in Ohio while yet a child and adhered to that faith all his life.

Pallbearers were C. R. Grady, L. A. Woodward, E. W. Burdic, Frank Swanson, Jesse West and C. L. Reid.

Trevits and Mrs. Vera Scheel of Newton, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hopkins, Mrs. Marie Hopkins Vodicka, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kelso, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Parrish and daughter, Miss Vera, Mrs. And Mrs. Lynn Parrish and daughter, Miss Mary Marie, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans and Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Hays, all of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Michael of Tekamah, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Parrish and children of Macy, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bokemper and daughters, and Mrs. Henry Baker, Mrs. Ada Short, Mrs. Otto Frahm, Mrs. Harry McLaughlin and Mrs. Frank Fitzgibbons of Blair.
