MRS. ADOLPH SCHURMAN DIES

Mrs. Adolph Schurman, a well known resident of the Fontanelle vicinity, passed away suddenly at the Schulman farm home at 8 o’clock Sunday morning, June 16, 1935, from a heart attack. Though not having been in the best of health for some time, she was able to be up and around, and Sunday arose as usual and after a hearty breakfast sat down in a chair where she was found dead a short time later. Her death came as a great shock to the family and their many friends. She had attained the age of 58 years, 7 months and 26 days.

As Julianna Beineke, Mrs. Schurman was born on October 20, 1876 at Barntrup, Lippe, Germany, where she spent her childhood. She came to the United States at the age of 13 years, and since had been a resident of the Fontanelle community where she had come to be well known and highly esteemed to a large circle of friends. She was of a home-loving disposition, and her family and home were her first considerations. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran church of Fontanelle, and to her friends and neighbors she was kind and considerate.

She was united in marriage on August 30, 1895 at Fontanelle to Adolph Schurman who survives her. She is also survived by five sons and a daughter: Fred, Winslow; Reinhart, Winfreth and Kermit, Nickerson; Adolph, Jr. at home; and Mrs. Arthur Mengedoht, Arlington. Also surviving her are three grandchildren, four sisters and a brother, Augusta, Mrs. Anna Faber and Marie in Germany; Gotlieb, Thunderhawk, N.D. and Sophie, Fremont.

Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with services at the farm home at 2 o’clock and at 2:30 from the Salem Lutheran church at Fontanelle, Rev. William Moehring officiating. The services were attended by a large number of people, attesting to the high esteem in which she was held in the community. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
