CAME HERE IN 1857

Funeral services for C. P. Masters, who died in Arlington Thursday, were held at the Methodist church in that city Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen in charge, assisted by Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh.

A quartet composed of Mrs. A. C. Rosenkilde, Mrs. Dora Ludwig, Henry Dorbecker and Allen Laaker sang, and the pallbearers were Ed and Floyd Nonnamaker, Luther Blevins, Francis Dolan, Chester Heuerman and C. C. Cook.

Mr. Masters was born June 5, 1856 near Butler, DeKalb county, Indiana, and came a year later with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Azariah Masters, to this vicinity where they homesteaded on the farm now occupied by B. F. Masters.

The family had a prominent part in the early development and history of this community.

Mr. Masters often recalled there were many Indians here in those early days, and how he and his brothers and sisters would hide when they came to their home.

About two years ago Mr. Masters’ health began to fail, and for the past month he had been bedfast.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Pfeiffer; two brothers, A.M. and B.F., both of Arlington; and two sisters, Mrs. James Bryce of Bloomfield and Mrs. Clara Marshall of Fremont.

Among the out of town relatives who were here for the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. F.W Heuerman of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Wager and daughter, Alice, of Loveland, Ia.; George Wager of Honey Creek, Ia.; Lou Wager and Mrs. Henry Wager and daughter, Opal, of Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mrs. A. V. Madison of Staten Island, N. Y.; Mrs. Glen Brawner and son, Jack, of Nebraska City; Mrs. Robert Bryce and daughter, Stella, of Kennard; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Masters of Fremont; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Masters of Sioux City, Ia.; Mrs. Robert Schwab of Fremont; Mr. and Mrs. William Heinemann and daughter, Rachel, Miss Lottie Panning, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Panning of Hooper and Mrs. Ernest Panning of Winslow.
