Word reached here Saturday evening of the death of Mrs. H. E. Rhodes of Guthrie Center, Ia., who died at the Iowa Methodist hospital at Des Moines after an illness of two weeks’ duration. Bernita Annette Peterson Rhodes was born in Omaha on October 25, 1892, and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Peterson, moved to Arlington in 1894 where she grew to womanhood. She was graduated from the Arlington schools in 1911, after which she attended the Peru normal at Peru, graduating in 1913. She taught in the public school at Scottsbluff and Arlington for a number of years, and on June 7th, 1922 she was married to H. E. Rhodes of Guthrie Center, Iowa, since which time she has resided at Guthrie Center. Besides her husband, she is survived by a ten year old son, Jerome; six year old twin daughters, Barbara Jane and Emma Josephine; a stepson William; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Peterson; three brothers, Dr. L. M. Peterson and John Rodney Peterson all of Arlington and Ted Peterson of New York. Funeral services were held in Guthrie Center on Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Guthrie Center cemetery. Relatives from here attended the funeral services.
