JOHN W. SMITH

John Williamson Smith was born at Grandview, Illinois, August 28, 1854, and died at Fort Calhoun June 15, 1935, age 81 years, 9 months and 15 days. He was married to Getitia Ann Hogue on September 28, 1876. To this union were born seven children. His wife, an infant son, Ora, and a daughter, Laura, have passed on. The children left to mourn his loss are: Mrs. G. L. Mauly, Tyron, Oklahoma; H. G. Smith, Toulver, Ill.; Mrs. Alpha Hurst and Mrs. Charles Hall of Fort Calhoun and Mrs. Charles Thedford of Versailles, Mo. There are also 15 grandchildren, one brother, Willis R. of Terre Haute, Ind. He was a strong believer of the Church of Christ and studied and practiced the teaching of the Good Book. He was a kind and loving father, cheerful disposition, always ready to lend a hand in sickness or trouble. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. R. H. Prentice officiating. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun cemetery.
