MARTIN JOHNSON, 67, SUCCUMBS LONG ILLNESS

Martin Johnson passed away at his home in Grant township Tuesday afternoon, May 28th, 1935 at 12:45 after a lingering illness of several years.

He was born at Honefoss, Norway September 7, 1868, being 67 years, 8 months and 21 days old at the time of his death. He came to Blair, Nebraska in March of 1888. On January 18, 1891 he was married to Elsie Thone at the farm on which he passed away, having lived there the entire time, with the exception of the first year, which was spent in Blair. To this union four children were born, one of which passed away in infancy.

When a young man, he became a member of the A.O.U.W and the F.A.U. lodges.

He was a man of fine character, exceedingly kind to his children and grandchildren. Having suffered for many years, he will be remembered for his uncomplaining way; always ready with some joke and an ever-open home to hospitality to the young and to the old alike. During his last suffering he had the loving care of his children, who were with him the last few days.

Mrs. Johnson, having passed away nine years ago, June 20, he leaves to mourn his loss three children: Merril at home, Lloyd living nearby and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Iverson of Blair; six grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Johnson; and a sister, Mrs. Rinda Gemoets, both of Omaha; and one sister in Norway; three brothers having preceded him in death and other relatives and many friends who will miss him more than words can express.

Deceased was baptized in the Lutheran faith while in his boyhood.

The funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Thomas J. Reese of Blair, assisted by Rev. Norlin of Herman. Interment was at the Thone cemetery.
