J. D. NEWCOM PASSES

The funeral services, which were held here on Saturday afternoon for Josua Dale Newcom at the Congregational church, were largely attended. Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh conducted the rites. The rostrum of the church was banked with the many floral offerings sent by his numerous friends and the various organizations of which he was a member.

A quartette composed of Mrs. P. L. Cady, Miss Leta Marshall, of Fremont, Richard Cady and Allen Laaker, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Keller, sang “There is a Land Fairer Than Day” and “O Think of the Home Over There” and Richard Cady sang a solo “Face to Face”.

Mr. Newcom was born in Missouri on January 11, 1864, and was the youngest of a family of twelve children. On January 20th, 1884 he was married to Minnie May Leskey, and about forty years ago the family moved to this place where they have since made their home.

Mr. Newcom had always taken an active interest in the community affairs, the work of the Masonic lodge, and Congregational church, and for many years had served on the village board of trustees. Mr. Newcom died at his home, following an extended illness, on April 18.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Mae Lloyd and Mrs. Genevieve Lillian Moschell, both of Omaha; one son, Dr. Floyd Newcom, died about ten years ago. Three grandsons also survive: Dr. Dale Lloyd of Los Angeles; Robert Earl Lloyd of Omaha and Rupert Richard Newcom of Arlington.

The Masonic lodge had charge of the services at the grave, the Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh giving the impressive Masonic funeral address, with Rhea Gilroy as chaplain. A group of thirty Masons were present.

The pallbearers were Don C. Weber, H. C. McClellan, Chet G. Marshall George A. Marshall, Dr. P. L. Cady and C. C. Cook.
