Mrs. Von Lanken, who was before her marriage Catharina Stock, was born in Gleichen, Germany August 7, 1853. After a short illness, she passed away at her home on Grant street April 11. Her husband, Jurgen Von Lanken, having preceded here in death seventeen years before.

Catharina Stock was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed church in Germany. In the year 1871 she came to America with friends and resided at Tuscola, Ill. In the year 1874 she was united in marriage to Mr. Von Lanken. They lived at Arthur and Arcola, , Illl. for a number of years. In the spring of 1899 they moved to Blair. Mr. Von Lanken established the Blair Racket Store and was the proprietor of it for many years.

Mrs. Von Lanken was a daily student of the Bible and a regular attendant at church services until she was no longer able to go. Her cheery disposition and loving manner was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she tried to live the life of a true Christian.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Von Lanken, six daughters and two sons, the sons having passed on in infancy. The daughters are as follows: Mrs. Anna Lorenzen of near Fort Calhoun; Mrs. Christina Kolterman of Blair; Mrs. Catharina Bruse of Pueblo, Colorado; Miss Margaret Von Lanken who resided at home with her mother; and an adopted son, J. A. Von Lanken of Texas. Mrs. Martha Linden and Miss Emma preceded their mother in death.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of Rev. Thomas J. Reese, pastor of the Baptist church, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
