11 Apr., 1935 - The Enterprise

Darrel Dahl Sorensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sorensen, was born in Staplehurst, Nebr. February 10, 1923, and died April 4, 1935 at the age of 12 years and 2 months.

When he was 3 years old, the family moved to Blair, Nebraska, and here Darrell was a member of the First Lutheran church and a pupil of Goll school.

He was taken ill with acute inflammatory rheumatism last May, and was confined to the Court View hospital for nine weeks. During his confinement there he made many friends. His doctor, nurses and parents praised his brave and cheerful disposition as he was never heard to complain.

The last two months were spent in Harlingen, Texas in the hope that he might regain his health, but after a year of suffering, he passed quietly away to be with his Lord and Maker, leaving his grief-stricken parents and brother, Glenn, to mourn his departure.

DARRELL SORENSEN TAKEN BY DEATH

PASSED AWAY IN TEXAS AFTER LONG ILLNESS AT AGE OF 12

Ill since stricken with inflammatory rheumatism while attending a school picnic last May 18, Darrell Sorensen, aged 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sorensen of north of Blair and well known in Herman and community, died in Hutchins, Texas, yesterday.

Word of the sudden passing of the youth was received late Wednesday night by relatives, who were advised that the parents were bringing the body back to Blair, having left by train last night.

Darrell, after being stricken with inflammatory rheumatism which affected his heart, was confined to the Blair hospital for nine weeks last summer. He was then returned home, but was able to be out of bed only a few days during the fall and winter. Late in January the parents took him to Texas to benefit his health if possible.

Darrell became well-known to many hospital visitors during his stay there. They often stopped in to see him when they visited the hospital, and frequently brought him small presents.

Born near Blair February 10, 1923, Darrell had just completed the sixth grade at Goll rural school when taken ill. He had not been back to school since.

Surviving in addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sorensen, is a brother, Glen, 14.

Funeral arrangements were not completed at noon today.
