Christian Staben, Sr.

Christian Staben, Sr., a resident of this community for 64 years, died at his home in Ft. Calhoun, January 14, 1935, at the age of 92 years. Although somewhat enfeebled, Mr. Staben had not been seriously ill, and the end came peacefully sometime as he slept during the night.

Mr. Staben was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, August 22, 1843, and came to America in 1870, the ship on which he made the voyage being a sailing vessel, requiring six weeks to reach America. His first job here was working on the farm of Henry Frahm, and through his industry and thrift while employed by Mr. Frahm and other farmers in the vicinity he became the owner of the farm west of town now occupied by his son Chris. About 20 years ago he and his family moved to Ft. Calhoun, his wife preceding him in death about five years ago.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, H. H. Staben of Cass county, Miss Anna, with whom he passed his declining years, Chris of Ft. Calhoun, and Mrs. Minnie Hofferman of Brownton, Mich., and by nine grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the home this Thursday) afternoon, with burial in the Ft. Calhoun cemetery.
