EARLY COUNTY RESIDENT DEAD

A prominent early resident of Washington county, and active for years in the Masonic Commandery at Blair, John G. Gannon, 75, former state legislator, deputy United States marshall, postmaster and Thurston county sheriff, died at Lincoln Monday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Aldrich.

Mr. Gannon came to Nebraska in the early sixties with his parents, and the family settled at Fontanelle. He later ran a store at Bancroft, was Thurston county sheriff from 1901 to 1904 and postmaster at Pender from 1904 until 1911.

In 1921 Mr. Gannon was elected state senator from the Ninth district. He resigned the following year to become deputy United States marshall for northeast Nebraska under Dennis Cronin. He held that position until 1932 when he came to Lincoln.

Mr. Gannon was active in Masonry, belonging to the blue lodge at Bancroft, the York rite at Oakland, the Commandery at Blair and the Tangier shrine at Omaha. Two brothers and four grandchildren also survive.
