Published in the Republican March 17, 1904

Last Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock Mrs. Mary Towne passed quietly away, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Ira F. Gilbert. Deceased had been an invalid for the past eight years and for the last three years had been confined to her bed most of the time. For seventeen years she has made her home with Mrs. Gilbert of this city, who has spared neither time, patience nor money in making her mother as comfortable as possible. Mrs. Towne was 77 years old and the last 60 years of her life was spent in a truly Christian way. At her request Rev. A. W. Clark, of Omaha conducted the funeral services at the Congregational Church of which she was a member. She leaves three sons, Charles of Calhoun, Louis of western Nebraska, John of Oregon and one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert of this city, to mourn the loss of a faithful Christian mother.

Note: Name on headstone is spelled Town.
