MRS. JOHN UNRUH RITES HELD SUNDAY

Mrs. John I. Unruh was, before her marriage, Mary Jane Overton, and was born in Juda, Wisconsin. Later, with her parents, she moved to Glen Haven, Wisconsin, and from there to Hamilton county, Iowa where she lived for many years.

She received her higher education at Iowa college, Grinnell. She taught in the schools of Marshalltown, Iowa and later in the grades and high school of Plattsmouth, Nebr.

It was in the latter place that she met Mr. Unruh. They were married in Ashland, Neb., and made their home in Plattsmouth for many years where Mr. Unruh was in the furniture and undertaking business. In Plattsmouth four children were born to them, two girls and two boys. One of the latter died in infancy.

In the spring of 1902 the Unruhs moved to Blair. Mrs. Unruh had been a resident of Blair since that time until she passed away at her home on the morning of October 11th, 1934. Although she had been an invalid for a number of years, she was seriously sick only about two weeks.

Mrs. Unruh was a member of the Blair Baptist church and was a consecrated student of the Bible and an earnest worker in that church until her health failed her.

She was also interested in literary work and was a member of the Plattsmouth Women’s club and later of the Monday Afternoon club of Blair. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Society of Plattsmouth.

Her immediate family will mourn their great loss, but not more than they will glory in what she accomplished by her steadfast faithfulness, patience and forgiving spirit; by her calm endurance (for she never uttered a complaint) and by the sweet smile in her eyes, she left treasured memories and taught others to suffer and be strong”.

It was Mrs. Unruh’s request that she be buried from the home at 406 West Grant street where she had lived for about 30 years, and so the funeral Sunday afternoon was held from there. The interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Besides her husband, John I. Unruh, she leaves behind two daughters, Mrs. Winifred Selby of Blair and Mrs. Cora Struxness of Minatare, Nebr., one son, George O. Unruh of Omaha and one sister, Mrs. Olive J. Bowers, Moorland, Iowa.
