STRUCK BY CAR, OMAHAN IS KILLED

Tom Fitzgerald 59. Well Known in Washington County

Struck by an automobile as he was alighting from a streetcar half a block from his home at 8007 North 30th street, Thomas J. Fitzgerald, 59, retired Omaha mail carrier, Tuesday sustained injuries from which he died two hours later.

A native of the Garryowen vicinity, Mr. Fitzgerald had a wide acquaintance in the southern part of this county, and among his survivors are numerous relatives in that district. He was a brother of Mrs. Ellen Leehy and an uncle of John Leehy.

The car which struck Mr. Fitzgerald was carrying a young couple that had just been married at St. Philip Neri church, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lucht of Omaha, and was driven by Clement Zulfer of Omaha, who had served as best man at the ceremony. Also in the car was Miss Robinett Jensen who had been maid of honor.

Sulfur said the street car was traveling south rapidly and gave no indication of stopping at the crossing where Mr. Fitzgerald alighted. He asserted as soon as the doors opened the man stepped out directly into the path of the car, and that there was no time to avoid striking him.

A nephew of Mr. Fitzgerald was killed at the Dana college turn about two years ago, when the car he was driving overturned.

Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy, 16, a son, John, 20, three sisters, Mrs. Leehy, Miss Jane Fitzgerald and Mrs. Tom Kelly of Garryowen and a brother, J. H. Fitzgerald of Omaha.

Funeral services were held at 8:30 this morning from the residence to St. Philip Neri church, with burial in an Omaha cemetery.
