Howard A. Kofoed of Kennard passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the age of 91. He was born February 7, 1928 in Omaha to Blanch and Julius Kofoed. He was the youngest of twelve children. He attended Tech High School in Omaha until he enlisted in the Navy in 1946. He served aboard the USS Tarawa for three years. He completed his High School education graduating in 1950 and attended UNO before starting a career in Lithography. He retired in 1994. He was a life member of the VFW, Benson Post 2503. He had also been a member of the Forty and Eight Post 206 and the American Legion Post 112.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Betty Motz, and son James.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Deborah Goebel from his previous marriage, nephews Roy Kofoed, Jr. of Omaha and Larry Kofoed of Council Bluffs; three step children: Hollis Dickerson, Monica Seeman, and Meredith Lockard; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 8 at 11:00 AM at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. A luncheon at the church will follow.

Howard A. Kofoed was born February 7, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska to Julius and Blanch (Harding) Kofoed. He joined eleven siblings. He attended Lake and Franklin Grade Schools, and Sunday School at Mary Mann Mission. He received his draft notice during his senior year while attending Omaha Technical High School. He chose to enlist in the Navy in Leavenworth, KS. He served aboard the USS Tarawa for three years. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1949. He was an Aviation Boatswains Mate 3rd Class. Returning to Omaha, he completed his education, graduating in 1950.

He married Betty Frances Motz in 1951. Two children, Deborah and James, were born to them. He retired in 1994. Betty preceded Howard in death in 1998. In March, 1999, he married Kathy Dickerson.

Howard is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter Deb Goebel; step-children Hollis Dickerson, Monica Seemann, Meredith Lockard; grandchildren Mykaela and Nicole Dickerson, Andrew and Aaron Ohlsen, Heather Erdmann, Kathryn and Jack Lockard; Michael Goebel, James Nelson and Jennifer Kofoed; great-grandchildren Maliah, Malakai and Maddox, Keenan and Joseph; numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Jim.

Memorials may be directed to Kathy Kofoed for celebrating the life of her husband, Howard.
