OLD RESIDENT OF FONTANELLE DIES

Mrs. Hannah Ruwe Schaeffersman, 84, a resident of Fontanelle, Hooper and Fremont for many years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kuhlman, in Creighton Monday. She had resided with Mrs. Kuhlman, her oldest daughter, for the past several years.

Mrs. Schaeffersman was born June 12, 1849 near Bielefeld, Westphalia, Germany. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She was married to Christopher Schaeffersman in Germany in the spring of 1869. With her husband and family, she came to America in September, 1871 and settled in Fontanelle vicinity. The family made their home there until her husband’s death April 12, 1913.

A year later she left the farm for Hooper where she lived until about six years ago. She then came to Fremont to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lena Fuhlrodt, for several years before moving to Creighton to reside with Mrs. Kuhlman.

Mrs. Schaeffersman was a member of the Salem Lutheran church of Fontanelle. Surviving are two sons, August of Hooper and Henry of Herman; and three daughters, Mrs. Kuhlman of Creighton, Mrs. Fuhlrodt and Mrs. Louise Richter of Fremont; 27 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Schaeffersman of Fremont. A son, Theodore, died March 9, 1922.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Salem Lutheran church in Fontanelle. Rev. R. Moehring, pastor of the church, had charge of the service. Rev. M. Schroeder, Bloomfield, gave the sermon in English and Rev. Chr. Sick of Fremont in German. Burial was made in Fontanelle cemetery.
