Elsianne Friel, 70

Funeral services for Elsianne Friel were held at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bennington February 10, 1988, with Dr. Norman E. Schroeder officiating.

Prayer services had been held on Tuesday, February 9, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Casket bearers were Alvin Logemann, Leland Meeves, Melvin Steinert, Wilfred Meeves, Emmet Mordhorst and Gerald Gottsch.

Miriam Sukraw was organist and Joyce Johnson was the vocalist.

Interment was in the German Cemetery north of Bennington.

The Hadan-Golden Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Elsianne Meeves Friel was born March 7, 1917, at Bennington to John and Anna (Steinert) Meeves.

She was baptized in the Christian faith on April 22, 1917, at St. Johns Lutheran Church.

She confirmed her faith at St. Johns in the Rite of Confirmation on May 24, 1931.

After graduation from Bennington High School, she worked in Omaha for Seller Surgical Company.

She left Omaha in 1944 for Kansas City and worked there for Isle Surgical Supply for several years before going to Ralston Purina Company. She worked there for 34 years.

Elsianne was united in marriage to Bernard Friel at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bennington on July 4, 1954.

Elsianne managed the Friel Fumigant and Safety Equipment Company after Bernie’s death.

Following her retirement, she was hired as a temporary office helper at St. Lukes Hospital.

She gave up this work in 1987 due to her changing health condition.

Elsianne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Kansas City, Missouri.

Elsianne died in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 7, 1988, at the age of 70 years, 11 months.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Friel.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bunz of Omaha; two nieces, Patricia Dugaw and Renee Melies, both Omaha; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Friel, Jr., of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Mr. and Mrs. James Friel of Los Angeles, California; step-daughter Sandra Niebergs of Newton, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; sister Alma Gottsch, other relatives and many friends.
