HERMAN BUSINESS MAN PASSES AWAY SUN.

Frank O. Swanson, Highly Respected Citizen of Herman Dies Sunday

Frank Oscar Swanson, well known businessman and longtime resident of Herman, died early Sunday morning, January 1, in Omaha after a short illness. He had been in failing health the past several weeks, when he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia. He was taken to the Immanuel hospital in Omaha Saturday, where he passed away. He was 69 years, 9 months and 5 days old at the time of his death.

Mr. Swanson was born in Kalmariane, Sweden on March 27, 1869. He came to America in 1887, coming direct to Nebraska where he resided for 51 years, with the exception of two years in South Dakota. When a young man, he was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church. On November 24, 1897 he was married to Miss Anna Nelson at Omaha, and to this union were born four children, one daughter Mildred, three sons, Theodore, Edward and Harold, all of whom survive him.

Deceased was a member of the Masonic order, being a member of Landmark lodge No. 222 A.F&A.M. of Herman. He has been engaged in the blacksmith business in Herman for the past 45 years. During all these long years he has been faithful to his work, honest and honorable in his dealings and will be greatly missed in the community.

He is survived by his wife and four children, one sister, Mrs. Hilda Bring of Clifford, North Dakota, one sister, Amanda and one brother, Theodore, both residing in Sweden, also several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Herman Methodist church, conducted by Rev. A. W. Clarke. Music was furnished by a male quartette, L. D. Long, Francis Forsberg, Fred Robertson and C. R. Gray, with Mrs. H. C. Hansen at the piano.

The pallbearers were O. H. Godsey, Ben Wachter, James VanHorn, J. A. Jespersen, Chris Korshoj and G. F. Lowe. Interment was made in the Herman cemetery.

Out of town relatives who were here for the funeral were Mrs. Hilda Bring of Clifford, North Dakota; Mrs. Alfred Swanson and Rev. and Mrs. James Robertson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Emil Nelson and son, Walter, of Princeton, Illinois.

The Masons of the Herman lodge had charge of the ceremonies at the grave.
