G. O. Nelson, a resident of this community for 48 years, died at his home south of Fort Calhoun August 20. While not in the best of health for the past two years he had been able to be about until a week before his death, when he became ill with pneumonia. He was recovering from this when an attack of apoplexy proved fatal. Mr. Nelson was born in Sweden in 1857, and came to American in 1881, locating in 1886 on the farm where he passed away. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Otto, living at home and Henning, an engineer employed on the Missouri river work near Omaha. Mr. Nelson was the highest type of citizen, of strict integrity and unimpeachable character. For many years he was an elder in the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, resigning the position a few months ago because of ill health. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home, Rev. Lehr Newhouse, of Omaha officiating. Burial was made in the local cemetery.
