EARLY SETTLER BURIED TODAY

Mrs. Martha Newell Davis, aged 85 years, died at the Fontanelle Home in Omaha Tuesday morning. She was born in Pelham, Massachusetts September 16, 1853, and in 1868 came with her parents to this county.

The first school she attended here was in the old log school house, the site of which is in what is now the Rhoades park. Her teacher was her sister, known to Blair people as Mrs. Perry Selden.

She resided for a time in Kansas, but later returned to Blair where she resided until 1903. Here her family was reared. From Blair she moved to Omaha, and in January of 1928 she went to the Fontanelle Home where she spent her last years.

She leaves two sons, Harry of Montana and Roy of Des Moines, also two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Johnson and Miss Lora Davis, both of Great Falls, Montana. One daughter, Pearl, died in California in 1918, but was brought to Blair for interment.

She leaves, besides the children, a brother, M. D. Newell of Blair and a sister, Mrs. J. L. Skinner of Coffeeville, Kansas.

Funeral services were held this Thursday morning in Omaha, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery at 11:30.
