RITES FOR MRS. BROCK SUNDAY

Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, June 17th at the First Congregational Church for Mrs. Carrie Brock who died Thursday evening at the Blair Hospital after a short illness.

The Reverend Donald Scheuer officiated.

Pallbearers were Louis R. Murdoch, Robert Christensen, Rev. F. W. Thompson, Nels Lauritsen, J. Hilton Rhoades and Elmer Andreasen. Interment was at the Blair Cemetery.

Mrs. Carrie Brock was born in Dane county, Wisconsin to Anders and Margrethe Christensen on October 19, 1873 and passed away on June 14th, 1956 at the age of 82.

She was the last survivor of an early Nebraska pioneer family of four sons and three daughters. Her brothers, James, Peter, Nels and Soren were born in Denmark and her sisters, Anna Elizabeth and Stena were born in Wisconsin. The two sisters were well known in Blair as the wives of Julius Petersen and James Kirby, who conducted businesses here.

In 1879, when Mrs. Brock was five years old, she with her parents and family immigrated from Wisconsin by covered wagon to a farm home near Boelus, Nebraska. It was here that she later met Andrew Brock. They were married on September 29th, 1896 at York, Nebraska in the home of Mr. Brock's sister, Mrs. C.G. Henderson. Their first home was in St. Paul, Nebraska, where Mr. Brock was engaged in the mercantile business.

In St. Paul their two sons were born, Ernest, the elder in 1897, and Myron in 1907. In 1911 they moved to Blair , where Mr. Brock had purchased the Martin Hardware Co., a business which they operated until 1915 when the family moved to Rising City, Nebraska where Mr. Brock had acquired banking interests.

They again returned to Blair in 1919 where they were associated with the Citizens State Bank, and Mr. Brock served as the bank's president. Mrs. Brock was also active in the bank's affairs, until 1933. Later Mrs. Brock and her husband had supervision for the Kennard Co-operative Bank at Kennard, until their health compelled their retirement.

Her husband, Andrew, preceded her in death on May 26th, 1953, since which time, Mrs. Brock's health has steadily declined.

Their two sons are still living. Ernest lives at Boulder, Colorado, and Myron in Washington, D.C. There are two grandchildren, Peter Brock, the son of Myron, of Washington, D.C. and Genene, Ernest's daughter, now living at Sacramento, California.
