FORMER BLAIRITE, A FLORENCE DRUGGIST, SHOOTS SELF TUESDAY

Despondent over the death of his wife a year ago, George Siert, 61, killed himself with a shotgun early Tuesday morning in the basement of his drug store at 30th and Tucker streets in Florence. He shot himself in the heart with a 16-gauge shotgun by pulling a wire attached to the trigger.

Well-known in Blair, where other members of his family reside, Mr. Siert had been a Florence druggist for more than 30 years. He had lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth DeLong, in Omaha.

He is survived, in addition to his daughter in Omaha, by his mother, Mrs. Harry Siert; five brothers, Frank, Paul, Chris, Fred and Peter; and two sisters, Margaret and Kate, all of Blair.

There is a grandchild in Omaha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. DeLong.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at Forest Lawn chapel in Omaha, with interment following in Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mr. Siert was for many years a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

GEORGE SIERT DIES IN OMAHA George Siert, a former Blair man, was found dead in the basement of his drug store, 8535 North Thirtieth street, about 6:45 Tuesday morning.

Fifteen minutes after he left his daughter’s home for work he telephoned Kenneth De Long, his son-in-law, 8004 North Thirty first street. “You’d better come right over”, Siert said, “It’s all off”.

When De Long asked what was wrong, Siert hung up.

De Long ran to the store. Siert’s body was in the basement, a shotgun beside him. Police said he apparently had placed the gun against his body and fired the slugs through his heart using a wire to pull the trigger.

De Long said his father-in-law had grieved over the death of his wife about a year ago.

Siert was a member of the Odd Fellows. The body was taken to the N. P. Swanson funeral home.

Deceased was born and raised in Blair, and here he met his wife, Miss Irene Munroe, also a native of Blair. After their marriage they moved to Florence, and the husband went into the drug business which he has since followed.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Kenneth De Long of Omaha, his mother, Mrs. Harry Siert and five brothers, Frank, Paul, Chris, Fred and Peter and two sisters, Margaret and Kate, all of Blair except Peter who’d resides at Akron, Iowa.
