EARLY SETTLER DIES IN SEATTLE

Mrs. Nell Mead, a native of this county, passed away last Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in a hospital in Seattle, Washington, following a major operation, according to a telegram received by Mrs. Fred Hurdum from her son, Ben, who with his sister, Mrs. Josephine Louise Howard, were at her bedside at the time of her death.

Miss Nell Mehrens was born on the farm now owned and occupied by Mr. Hurdum, and here she grew to womanhood. She graduated from the Blair High school in the late eighties, and later married John Mead who some years ago passed away.

Besides the son who lives in Leavenworth where he is a guard in the Federal prison, and the daughter who lives in Seattle, she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Frank Mead of Canada, Mrs. Harvey Krogh of Blair and Mrs. Eva Grimsley of Little Sioux, Iowa and two brothers, John Mehrens of Mondamin, Iowa and George of New Mexico and a number of other relatives residing in this county.
