W. K. FOWLER FORMER SCHOOL HEAD DIES

5 Years Superintendent of Blair School, 4 Years State Supt.

W. K. Fowler, who has many friends in Blair, died at his home in Lincoln early Monday morning at the age of 73 years.

Born in Tenafly, N.J. of Scottish parents, Mr. Fowler was educated in New York City, Monmouth, Illinois and Edinburgh. He came to Nebraska in 1883, and settled at North Bend. He edited the Scribner News, in 1890 established the North Bend Argus and began his teaching career in the rural schools of that vicinity. The year of 1888 he spent traveling and studying in the British Isles. He was principal of Scribner High school for five years and superintendent of the Blair system for a like period.

Mr. Flower went to Lincoln in 1900 as state superintendent and served in that position for four years. He was president of the High school section of the state teachers association before that, served two years as clerk of the educational council, was on its legislative committee, and was for several years on the executive committee of the teachers association. He was active in the National Education association from 1892 on and was a member of the national section of city superintendents.
