Gerald E. Luby, 80

Greatest joy was being a grandfather

Gerald E. Luby, 80, of Blair, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. No visitation will be held.

Gerald E. "Jerry" Luby was born July 28, 1931, in Giltner, to John and Billy Luby. He served four years in the United States Navy aboard a destroyer during the Korean War.

He married Ida Braun on Jan. 2, 1956, in Burke, S.D. They moved to Blair and raised their five children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Husker fan. He worked hard as a machinist and enjoyed spending time with his family, and his greatest joy was being a Grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; five children and their spouses, Jeff and Kathy Luby of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Joe and Mary Beth Luby and Jill and Dave Pleiss, all of Omaha, Jerry Lee and Brenda Luby of Elkhorn, and Julie and Ray Sprau of Blair; nine wonderful grandchildren, Rachel, Danielle, Sean, Shannon, Shelby, Alexis, Josie, Natalie and Kimberlee; and great-granddaughter, Teagen.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mathew Jon; three sisters and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Chemotherapy and Physical Therapy Departments at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
