PAT GILLESPIE FORMER COUNTIAN DIES AT 66

Pat Gillespie, 66, Rites Were Held Wednesday in Omaha

Injured when he caught his foot on a wire and fell while working about the yard at his home at 2756 California street, Omaha, Patrick Gillespie, 66, for many years a farmer on the bottom two miles north of Blair, died Saturday at St. Catherine’s hospital, Omaha, where he had been confined since the mishap.

Funeral services were held at 8:30 Wednesday morning from the residence to St. John’s church at nine. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Gillespie are his widow, Katherine; one son, Patrick James; two brothers, John, Elkhorn; and Peter, Omaha; and by one sister, Mrs. Peter Carr of Ireland. John Gillespie is well known in this vicinity also, having farmed for many years on the Gillespie place.

Mr. Gillespie was first married to Miss Annie Maher, a cousin of the late James E. Maher, and the couple moved from Omaha to Blair to take up farming. Mr. Gillespie was wholly unfamiliar with farming methods, but adapting himself readily to farm life, he succeeded in acquiring substantial real estate holdings.

Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie moved to Omaha about 20 years ago, where Mr. Gillespie became manager of the rug and drapery department of the now-defunct M. E. Smith Wholesale company. Mrs. Gillespie died about nine years ago, and in 1931 he was married to the woman who now is his widow.
