FUNERAL SERVICES OF ERVIN HARTUNG

Funeral services for Ervin Hartung, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Hartung, of Fontanelle, were held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home and at 2 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, with Rev. G.W. Wolter in charge.

A large crowd was present and the church and surrounding yard were filled.

Misses Leona Scheer and Mattie Heuerman acted as flower girls. Mrs. Schnockenburg sang a solo and other music was given by the boys’ group and the congregation.

Pallbearers were: Henry Wilkening, Alvin Jacobs, Clarence Jacobs, Elmer Scheer, Alfred Brackett and Fritz Heuerman.

Ervin Hartung was born near Arlington January 14, 1914, and died early Saturday morning from injuries he received while working at the home of his brother Obert. Besides his parents he is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Elvie Hilgenkamp, Mrs. Wm. Leuscher of Des Moines, Ia., Mrs. Russell Hoover of Omaha, Misses Freda, Verna and Lorraine; and two brothers, Obert of Fremont and Merle.

ARLINGTON YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES

ERVIN HARTUNG IMPALED ON PITCHFORK WHILE HELPING BROTHER MAKE HAY

Ervin Hartung, 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Hartung north of Arlington died on Friday evening, September 16th, as the result of injuries sustained earlier in the week when he slipped and fell on a pitchfork while helping a brother make hay. The handle of the fork penetrated the youth's abdomen and an operation performed later in a Fremont hospital failed to save his life. The mishap occurred on the Obert Hartung farm near Fremont.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 19th. Besides his parents he is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Evie Hilgenkamp of Arlington, Mrs. William Lewscher of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Russell Hoover of Omaha, Freda, Verna and Lorraine Hartung, all of whom live at home, and by two brothers, Obert of the Fremont vicinity and Merle of Arlington, Pallbearers at the funeral were Elmer Scheer, Alfred Brackett, Heine Wilkening, Alvin Jacobs, Clarence Jacobs and Fred Heuerman.
