Grimm, Will, 27

#1-Published in Blair Courier on 23 May 1901

The death of Will Grimm was not unexpected for his physician said he could not live, yet the end came very suddenly on Tuesday and cast a gloom over the entire city, for he was an exceptionally popular young man and had already given promise for a successful business career. He was born a little over twenty-seven year ago on the very spot where his death occurred, in the east part of the city. In 1893, while in his junior year in the High School, he accepted a position in the Banking House of A. Castetter which position he filled in a most satisfactory manner until his failing health compelled him to resign August 1, 1900. Since that time he visited Hot Springs, S.D., various points in Florida and Georgia, and lastly Phoenix, Arizona, in search of a more agreeable climate, but all to no avail for the much dreaded Bright's disease held him firm in its grasp and would not let go until death came peacefully at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning. Rev. Irving P. Johnson, of south Omaha, conducted the funeral services at the home at 2 o'clock this afternoon, which were largely attended. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a delegation of the Modern Woodmen and Mystic Legion lodges, the former conducting the services at the grave. The floral tributes and decorations were in excellent taste and gave expression to the silent messages of grief each sorrowing heart would speak. By the graveside of this departed friend we all have stood as mute uncovered witnesses before the powerful hand of the grim messenger of eternity, while sorrow fills all our hearts with tender and loving emotions toward all mankind.

#2-23 May, 1901 - The Pilot - William Grimm

William Grimm is dead. Such was the news that spread rapidly through Blair last Tuesday afternoon. Though it has been known for some time that he was dangerously ill and that his condition had become alarming, yet when the sad news was whispered about town it spread a cloud of gloom such as is felt only when young men of his character and standing are taken from our midst. A perfect gentleman in all ways and at all times, he has endeared himself to all, and all alike mourn his untimely death. He was purely a Blair boy. He was born and raised here and in our schools he had received his education. For nine years after he finished school he was employed in the Banking House of A. Castetter, which position he resigned last August on account of failing health. William Grimm was born at the Grimm home March 30, 1874, and died in the same home May 21, 1901. August 1st he left for Hot Springs, South Dakota where he remained for two months. He remained at home for two months and then sought health in the sunny south, going to Georgia and Florida. He found this country too wet and soon returned home, and on January 11 left for Phoenix, Arizona. Here he remained for four months and was then advised by his doctor to return home which he did, arriving here May 6, since which time he has failed fast from Bright’s disease. He was conscious till death came to relieve his sufferings. He was a member of the Imperial Mystic Legion and the Modern Woodmen lodges, carrying a $2,000 policy in the latter. He leaves a father, mother, six brothers and one sister, all of whom were present at the death bed save Dr. P. G. Grimm, who arrived yesterday from Buffalo Gap where he is practicing medicine. The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon by Rev. I. P. Johnson of South Omaha.
