Linda Marie (Sake) George was born on January 13, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska to Kenneth and Loretta “Tootsie” (Krutilek) Sake. She grew up in Valley where she attended grade school and graduated from Valley High School in 1967. As a young girl, Linda was very active in school life including playing the clarinet in band and cheerleading. After high school, Linda attended Beauty School in Fremont.

Linda married Gerald George on July 29, 1967 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley, Nebraska and they were blessed with two children: JoAnn and Timothy. After a few months living in Fremont, Linda and Jerry returned to Valley for good.

Linda worked as a beautician part time so she could concentrate on being a full-time mom. After the children were both in school, Linda went to work as the Elementary Library Aide and then she became the high school secretary, working for the school district for 35 years. She became the videographer for all the school sporting events. Linda loved fishing, coaching softball and being a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She seldom missed her children’s or grandchildren’s activities. Linda was active in the Valley Historical Society, Library Board, Cemetery Board, Valley Alumni Association, St. Mark’s Church and Eastern Star. She was a loving, creative woman who always looked for the best in people. Linda was an avid Husker and Terrier fan but her favorite team was whichever her grandkids were on for soccer, football, baseball, swimming or cross country. She loved chocolate covered cherries and dinner out with the family. She didn’t like things in disarray and could often be heard saying “We come from good stock”.

Linda passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Ken and Loretta, step-father Charlie Schulz, husband Gerald and brother Rick. Linda is survived by son Tim (Carrie) of Papillion, NE; daughter JoAnn (Troy) Hardman of Valley, NE; grandchildren: Tyler (Chastity Zomers) and Ryan Hardman and Daniel, Zachary, and Emilie George; mother-in-law Maxine George of Yutan; and sisters-in-law: Laura (Paul) Peitzmeier of Yutan and Ruth Sake of Valley, NE.
