Widow of John McDonald Succumbed Tuesday Following an Illness

METHODIST RITES ARE HELD IN BLAIR

Married in 1884, Mrs. McDonald Survived by Ten Children, 31 Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren; Many at Funeral

Mrs. Anna McDonald, 73, widow of John A. McDonald, well-known pioneer resident of the vicinity south of Blair, died at 8:30 o’clock Tuesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Miller, on east Lincoln street. Ill sometime, Mrs. McDonald had lived with her daughter since shortly after her husband’s death in 1939.

Anna McBride was born in Iowa, February 11, 1867, but had spent practically all of her life in Washington county. She and Mr. McDonald were married April 15, 1884, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1934.

Funeral services, in charge of the Campbell Mortuary, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Methodist Church, R.W. Hastings of the Congregational church officiating in the presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives. Interment followed in Blair cemetery.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by six sons, Thomas of Herman, Mark and Clyde, both of Omaha, Delmar of Papillion, Charles of Ralston and Russell of Blair; and four daughters, Mrs. Oscar Rood of Manville, Wyoming, Mrs. William Grabe of Ralston, Mrs. Lawrence Miller of Blair and Mrs. Clarence Olson of Tekamah. There are 31 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, George and Frank McBride, and a sister, Mrs. Rachael McDonald, all of Blair.

Mrs. John McDonald Dies At Seventy-Three Years Of Age

HUSBAND KNOWN AS FARMER POET

Mrs. John A. McDonald, early settler of this county, passed away December 24 at the home of her daughter, Mrs.Lorenz Miller of Blair, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Deceased was born in Muscatine County, Iowa and came to this county in early childhood. She was married to John McDonald April 15, 1885 at the Methodist church in this city.

To this union eleven children were born, ten of whom are still living. Those surviving are Mrs. Oscar Rood of Manville, Wyoming; Thomas W. McDonald of Herman; Mark A. McDonald and Clyde E. McDonald of Omaha; Delmar F. McDonald of Papillion; Mrs. William Grabe of Omaha; Charles McDonald, Mrs. Lorenz Miller and Russell McDonald of Blair; and Mrs. Clarence Olson of Tekamah; also 32 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and two brothers, George and Frank McBride, and a sister, Mrs. Rachel McDonald of Blair.

Her husband, known as the farmer poet, passed away a short time ago and Mrs. McDonald has been very lonely since, and her health failed rapidly.

The funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church where she took her wedding vows; interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
