HERMAN MAN BURIED SATURDAY

Funeral services for D. E. Hayes were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Herman Baptist church, Rev. A. W. Clarke, M. E. pastor was in charge. Music was furnished by Miss Dagmar Olson, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, L. D. Long and C. R. Gray, with Mrs. F. B. Shrader at the piano. Burial was made in the Herman cemetery.

David Elija Hayes was born at Unionville, Missouri on June 17, 1863, and died at his home in Herman Wednesday, December 1, 1937, aged 74 years, 5 months and 14 days.

On February 28, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Fanny E. Grahm at Unionville, Missouri. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Bruce Smith of Omaha and Mrs. C. B. Garnett of Denver, Colorado.

They settled in Centerville, Iowa, but in 1912 they came to Herman, and have been residents of that community twenty five years. He became of member of the Baptist church at Centerville, Iowa, later transferring his membership to the Herman Baptist church. He was a faithful member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife and daughters, four grandchildren and one great grandchild, two brothers James of Unionville, Missouri and John of Centerville, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Ira Stevens of Kansas City, Missouri and Mrs. Charlotte Worley of Exline Iowa, three half brothers, Ira, George and Fred of Centerville, Iowa, also Mrs. Cora Mau of Madison, Nebr., who lived with them for a number of years.

He was a faithful husband, a good father and a large circle of friends will miss his passing.
