RITES HELD MONDAY AT BLAIR FOR J.W. SIMONSEN, 55

Well Known Blair Farmer Passed Way Last Thursday, Dec. 2

Johannes Wilhelm Simonsen was born April 10, 1882 on a small farm near Odense, Fyn in Denmark. He was the youngest child in a family of six. His parents were Lars and Anna Christina Simonsen.

After attending Danish schools, serving a cabinet making apprenticeship and serving in the Danish army, he sailed to the United States with his mother in 1904. He located in Clay county, Nebraska, and on March 6, 1908, he was wed to Miss Carrie Dorothy Hansen.

Moving to a farm near Verona, Nebraska where he and his family lived for fourteen years. He moved to Beaver Crossing where he engaged in the dairy business for seven years. He purchased and lived the rest of his life on the farm one half mile north of the Bono school house north of Blair.

Although he was ailing somewhat in the past year, he continued his work until he suffered a stroke of paralysis November 19. Taken immediately to the hospital in Blair he seemed on the road to recovery when he suddenly passed away on the evening of December 2nd.

All those who know him will ever remember him as a staunch supporter of Christian conduct and character, and as one who bore all troubles with no complaint or thought of himself, always ready to help his neighbor in time of need.

Interested always in the achievement for good in his neighbors' children as well as his own, he had a large part in the obtaining and building of the new schoolhouse in Bono district, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand in any activities which took place in the district where he was for many years on the board of school directors.

He is survived by his faithful wife and eight children: Theodore and Agnes of Omaha; Harold, David, Elmer, Ethel, Edwin and Gladys all of Blair; three brothers, Theodore of Cape May, New Jersey; Christian of Hampton, Nebraska and Frederick of Denmark and one sister, Anna, Mrs. Hans Nielsen also of Denmark and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. N. T. Lund, were held Monday afternoon at one o’clock at the home and two o’clock from the First Lutheran church in Blair. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery with Chris K. Bendorf in charge.
