OSCAR GAINES BURIED SUNDAY

Funeral services for Oscar E. Gaines, former resident of Arlington, were held at Elk City from the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock and were largely attended by many friends and relatives from Arlington, Fremont, Omaha, Lincoln, Dodge and several other places.

Mr. Gaines was born near Springfield, Illinois on January 22, 1866, and in 1881 he moved with his parents to Elk City where he grew to manhood. On January 3, 1893 he was united in marriage with Jessie Kepler and for six years they lived on a farm near Elk City.

Later the family moved to Arlington where Mr. Gaines was in business a number of years. He was also salesman for Marshalls Nursery, and after some time the family moved to Fremont where they resided until about eight years ago when they moved to Omaha where both their sons live.

Mr. Gaines died of a sudden heart attack on Friday morning while seeming to be in the best of health.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Harold Baker, pastor of the Valley and Elk City churches. Miss Betty Turner and Miss Edith Kincaid, with Mrs. Harry Turner as accompanist, sang “Valley of Eden” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”.

The pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Gaines and were John Crink, Ross Gaines, Erick Oetting, Chester Gaines, Fred Gaines and Perry Gaines.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Gaines of 2216 Burt St., Omaha, two sons, Clyde C. Gaines and Lynn Gaines, also of Omaha, two grandchildren and one brother, Leonard C. Gaines of Fremont.

Burial was made in the family lot in the Elk City cemetery.

Among those from Arlington who attended the funeral services were Messrs. and Mesdames G. I. Pfeiffer, S. H. Lockman, F. E. Webb, R. A. Davies; Mrs. G. H. Rosenkilde, daughter, Catherine May and son, Leo Ray; Mrs. D. W. Lawson and daughter, Miss Lucy Lawson.
