RITES HELF TODAY FOR MRS. GUS SCHEFFLER, 67

Mrs. Gus Scheffler, after a long illness, passed away September 14, 1937 at the age of 67 years.

Deceased was born in Ottawa, Canada March 25, 1870, and spent the early part of her life there. After completing her education, she came to Sioux City, Iowa. She was married to Gus Scheffler at Bridgewater, South Dakota August 4, 1896, and they resided at Creston, Nebraska until 1899 when they came to Blair.

After coming to Blair, Mrs. Scheffler affiliated herself with the Congregational church and as long as her health would permit she did her share of the church work. Not alone was she active in church work, she was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a charter member of the Stanley E. Hain Post No. 154 American Legion and of the V.F.W. auxiliary.

Her activities in these different organizations did not stop her from personal work, and many can testify of her virtues and her kindly Christian spirit.

Surviving are Mr. Scheffler and four children: Orval, Mrs. Burt Williams, Mrs. Alfred O. Sick and Miss Helen, all of Blair. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. L. B. Breckenbidge of Detroit, Michigan; and seven grandchildren, six of whom live in Blair.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Campbell’s mortuary, the Rev. A. F. Newell of Syracuse, formerly of Blair, in charge. G. L. Dixon sang a solo during the services. Pallbearers were R. E. Vinton, E. A. Schmidt, Theodore H. Lundt, James Brown, J. H. Grimm and L. C. Klopp. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

MRS. SCHEFFLER, 67, SUCCUMBS TO LENGTHY ILLNESS

BLAIR RESIDENT 38 YEARS, MOTHER OF FOUR CHILDREN, BURIED TODAY

Mrs. Gus Scheffler, 67, Blair resident since 1899, died at the family home on West Lincoln Street at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness which had kept her bedfast for several months.

Wife of the veteran Blair harness dealer and mother of four children, Mrs. Scheffler for many years had been among the most active workers in the Congregational Church here.

As Anna Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Davis, She was born at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada March 25, 1870 and spent the early part of her life there. She attended the Ottawa schools and later moved to Sioux City, Iowa.

On August 4, 1896 she was married to Gus Scheffler at Bridgewater, South Dakota, the ceremony being performed by the father of the late Rev. W.H. Underwood of Blair.

For several years Mr. and Mrs. Scheffler resided at Creston, Nebraska, but in 1899 they came to Blair, where they have made their home since.

Mrs. Scheffler was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, and was a charter member of the auxiliaries of Stanley E. Hain post No. 154, American Legion, and of Washington County post No. 1251, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Orval, Mrs. Burt Williams, Mrs. Alfred O. Sick and Miss Helen, all of Blair. There is one surviving sister, Mrs. E.M. Breckenridge, Detroit, Michigan. Seven grandchildren survive: Bob Scheffler of Walla Walla, Washington; Burt Williams Jr., Lois Williams, James Williams, James Scheffler, Billy Scheffler and Gordon Alan Sick, all of Blair.

Funeral services were held this morning at 10:30 o’clock at the Campbell Mortuary. Officiating was the Rev. Arthur F. Newell of Syracuse, formerly Blair’s Congregational pastor and a longtime friend of the Scheffler family. Gifford L. Dixon sang a solo during the services. Interment was in Blair cemetery.

Pallbearers were Theodore H. Lundt, R.E. Vinton, L.C. Klopp, E.A. Schmidt, James Brown and J.H. Grimm.
