WELL KNOWN COUNTY FARMER DIED MAR. 11 AN EARLY SETTLER

Henry Scheer, Prominent Arlington Farmer, Victim of Influenza

Henry Scheer, 65 years of age, a resident of Arlington for the past 44 years, died at his farm home seven miles northeast of Arlington on Thursday of last week following an illness of five weeks with influenza and pneumonia.

Scheer was born at Port Hudson, Mo., and came to Washington county 44 years ago. He had made his home in the neighborhood since, with the exception of five years. He was a farmer. He was married February 18, 1898 to Lizzie Stranghoener.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Oscar, a daughter, Mrs. Carl Lottman, two grandchildren, a brother, W. L. Scheer of Arlington and three sisters, Mrs. H. T. Schmidt, Arlington; Mrs. Gus Bunselmeyer, Gerald, Mo.; and Mrs. Louis Holdgriebe, Rosebud, Mo.

Deceased was an upright, honorable citizen, and was a factor for good in his community, and his advice and council was always sought by his acquaintances, and he will be greatly missed on this account.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Brown Creek church, and interment in the Brown Creek cemetery.

Henry John August Scheer, son of William Scheer and Charlotte Scheer, nee Brinkman, was born March 12, 1872 at Port Hudson, Mo. He was baptized April 14, 1872 by Pastor W. Sandvofs and was confirmed March 20, 1885 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beaufort, Mo.., by Pastor A.W. Muller. He passed away Thursday morning, March 11th at the age of 65 years and 27 days.

He came to Nebraska in 1894 at the age of 22 and was united in marriage to Lizzie Stranghoener on February 22, 1898 at the St Paul’s Lutheran church. This union was blessed by one son and one daughter.

He leaves to mourn his bereaved wife, one daughter, Mrs. Carl Lotman, on son, Oscar Scheer, two grandchildren, Donald and Doris Mae Lottman, one brother, W.L. Scheer, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Smith, Mrs. Louie Holtgrave of Rosebud, Mo., Mrs. Gus Bunselmeyer of Gerald, Mo. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with nearly 600 in attendance. Interment was made in the St. Paul’s cemetery.
