DIES AT AGE OF 76 YEARS

The following clipped from the Hamburg Reporter of Hamburg, Iowa may be of interest to Blair people. Louie Jensen, referred to in the article, at one time was proprietor of the Hansen Bakery and sold to the present proprietors who moved to Hamburg and entered the same business there.

“Nels Jensen died at the home of his son, Louie Jensen, on January 14, 1937, ending a life of usefulness and leaving behind a host of friends who could always depend upon him as a friend in time of need. Quiet of manner, his strength of character was a force for good, and the influence of his life will live on.

Nelson Peter Jensen was born on the Isle of Maine, Denmark, March 2, 1860 and reached the age of 76 years, 10 months and 12 days. As a youth of twelve he came to America on a sailboat, requiring ninety days to make the journey. He came to Fremont, Nebraska, where he helped build the U.P. railroad and later moved to Omaha where he followed the bakers trade which he had learned in Denmark. In 1918 he moved to Blair, Nebraska, where he conducted a bakery, and came to Hamburg in 1920. With the sale of the bakery business in 1928, Mr. Jensen did not retire, but assisted in the hotel business, and was always busy at some useful work, and even in his hours of suffering he always had a smile and a cheerful word for his friends, many of whom did not realize his suffering.

Funeral services were held from the Johnson funeral Home Sunday morning at 10 o’clock, and interment was in Forest Lawn cemetery in Omaha. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. N. W. Klooze, pastor of the Presbyterian church - Hamburg Reporter."
