PIONEER COUNTY WOMAN DIES IN OMAHA SUNDAY

Daughter of Nathan and Martha Carter Homesteader in Wash. Co.

Mrs. Kate Yeoman, 75, of Omaha died at her home last Sunday morning, January 24. Mrs. Yeoman was born in this county and in this vicinity on September 24, 1861.

Her first school days were spent in the log school house, which was the first in this district and located on the side of the present Rhoades park. This school house was built by the three Carter brothers, Nathan, Jacob and Thomas Marion, and the first teacher was Miss Emily Bottorf, mother of Mrs. A. J. Lazure.

This was before the Blair townsite was laid out and when this section was known as Carter Hollow, and the creek now called South creek was known as Carter creek.

Mrs. Yeoman grew to womanhood in Blair and lived here until after her marriage over fifty years ago when she moved to Omaha.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Robert H. Yeoman; a daughter, Mrs. Gail Y. Corte, both of Omaha; two sons, George V. of Wilmette, Illinois and Vidal of Chicago and three sisters, Mrs. William Hinkle of Blair; Mrs. Ellen Foss of Grand Island and Mrs. Will Campbell of Helena, Montana.
