CONRAD WUTBERN, PIONEER RESIDENT, BURIED TODAY

Successful Farmer. Retired In 1916. Born And Reared In Germany

Conrad A. T. Wulbern died at the George Christensen home in this city on Monday at 5:40 p.m., following an illness of several weeks.

He was born in Hanover, Germany August 25, 1865, and was thus past 90 years of age at his death. When he was twenty years of age he left Germany and came to America. For a time he obtained work in a store in New York City, but soon decided to come west. Settling in Washington County, he farmed from 1885 until 1916 when he retired and has since made Blair his home.

Mr. Wulbern was married to Emily Lange, the ceremony being performed in Blair, and they at once made their home on the farm.

A family of seven children were born to them, four of whom are still living. Those living are Henry, Mrs. Rudolph Kuhl, both of Blair; William of Kennard; and Mrs. Fritz Arp of Herman.

The wife passed on in 1907 and until 1916 Mr. Wulbern continued his farming operations, when he retired and came to Blair where he resided until his death.

In his farming operations he was successful, and he amassed enough of this world’s goods to make him comfortable in his old age.

With his old time neighbors and all who knew him he was considered most conscientious and honorable, and his word was as good as a bond.

He lived to be past 90 years, and he lived without enemies and with a reputation that was above reproach. What more could any man do? Loved and respected by his friends, he led a life above reproach. Such men are the backbone of morality, and when they are called it is an irretrievable loss.

Besides the children already mentioned, he leaves eleven grandchildren and one sister who is in Germany.

Funeral rites will be held this Thursday afternoon at two o’clock from the Campbell Mortuary, and interment will be made in the German cemetery in the southern part of the county.
