HY CHRISTENSEN FORMER MAYOR DIED AT AGE 69

Resident Of County since 1892. In Business In Washington And Blair

Henry Christensen, who has been city clerk and bookkeeper for the Blair municipalities for the past thirteen years, passed away at his home on East Grant Street on Tuesday morning. Had he lived until July 19, he would have been seventy years of age.

He was born in Denmark, and when seven years of age came to this country. His boyhood days were spent in Hamilton County, Nebraska where he received his early education. In 1892 he came to Blair where he attended Dana college for several terms.

At the age of fourteen he was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Hampton, Nebraska, and he has always lived the part. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and of the W.O.W. of Blair. In the latter order he had held both State and National offices. He was the financial secretary of the W.O.W. and held the office at the time of his death.

As a young man he learned the printer’s trade, working on several publications, among them being “Danskeren” and the Blair Pilot. He was foreman of the latter for a number of years.

He was married to Leonora Platz on September 14, 1899, and in 1901 they moved to Washington in this county where he operated a general merchandise store for a number of years, and at the same time served as postmaster, and was also on the school board.

In 1914 he moved to Blair where he has since resided. He was mayor of the city for two terms. He is survived by his widow and one son, Donald Platz Christensen. The son is somewhere in the pacific, serving in the Navy.

As a man and a citizen, Henry Christensen was the soul of honor. Fair-minded and fearless he had all the qualities of superior manhood and gathered to himself a host of friends who will miss his kindly, jovial personality.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home, and interment will be made in the Blair cemetery.
