ANOTHER OLD RESIDENT CALLED TO FINAL REST

A. B. Newkirk Was Resident Of This County For 76 Years

A. B. Newkirk, a well know and highly respected farmer, died suddenly last Tuesday at the home of his daughter in Grand Island. He had, it is reported, gone to sleep in his chair and passed away in his sleep.

Deceased was born in Indiana on July 2, 1867, and when eighteen months of age his parents moved to Washington County where he has since resided.

He was married to Miss Frances Barton on February 14, 1894, and to them five children were born. The wife died in August, 1937, and since then he has been unsettled, but maintained his own home most of that time.

Those who survive him are two sons, Merle and Edward of Arlington and two daughters, Mrs. Edna Anderson of Herman and Kathryn of Grand Island and nine grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, E. V. of Fontanelle, Henry of South Dakota, Verne of Minneapolis, Minnesota and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pruner of Omaha.

Mr. Newkirk was a man of high ideals; he was a good neighbor and although he had resided in the same community all his life, he had no enemies and was held in the highest regard. He was a Mason of high standing and a past Worth Master of the Arlington lodge.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. from his home west of Orum and at 2:30 p.m. from the Congregational church at Arlington.
