Eliza B. McCoy was born at Seymour, Iowa on February 4, 1880 to Mr. and Mrs. D. T. McCoy. The father died when she was seven years old, and the family moved to Arlington where she grew to womanhood She graduated from the Arlington High School in 1898, and immediately took a position in the Arlington post office, which position she held until her marriage to Henry Mencke on September 21, 1900.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Mencke settled in Blair where they lived for two years and then moved to Arlington; from Arlington they went to Amherst, Nebraska; returning to Blair in 1912 where they have since resided.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mencke, Ralph W. and Marguerite, the latter passing away at the age of seven years.

Mrs. Mencke was a highly intelligent woman and during her husband’s career as an attorney, she assisted him in his work. During that time she became well versed in law and kept abreast of the times until her death.
