JENS C. SORENSEN BURIED JANUARY 22

Jens Christian Sorensen was born in Aalborg, Jutland, Denmark on December 11th, 1858. In his native land he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. On January 20, 1887 he was united in marriage to Nikoline Jensen. In the spring of that year they emigrated to America, arriving in Blair, Nebraska in the month of May. For a short time they worked for a farmer, but it was not long before they rented a farm until fifty years ago when they bought the farm on which they lived the rest of their lives. On January 20th, 1937 Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Both were charter members of the Orum Danish Lutheran church of which they remained members until they passed away.

Mr. Sorensen passed away at the Dodge County Hospital, Fremont, Nebraska, on Friday morning, January 19th, after an illness of only three days, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his adopted daughter, Esther, wife of Robert Rasmussen; three grandchildren, Harold Rasmussen of Omaha, Elaine and Jimmie at home; one great grandchild, Carol Jean Rasmussen; and a brother, Louis Sorensen of Arlington.

Thus another of the early settlers of this community has passed away. Mr. Sorensen was a devoted husband, a kind father and a good neighbor, highly respected in the community for his sterling qualities.

Funeral services were conducted at the Danish Lutheran Church, Orum, last Monday, January 22, with interment in the Orum cemetery.
